With a population of nearly 1.5 million, Dallas is a bustling city featuring a variety of entertainment options like museums, restaurants, sporting events, and great shopping. But all that stuff costs money, right? Wrong. Here are some free things to do in Dallas that don’t suck. 


NorthPark Center's CenterPark

CenterPark is a 1.4-acre landscaped garden smack in the middle of Dallas' fanciest mall: NorthPark Center. Featuring world-class sculpture, exotic plants, mature trees is perfect for a stroll with the kids and is one of the great free things to do in Dallas. Don’t miss CenterPark in spring when thousands of tulips are in full bloom.

Hang with the Hipsters on Greenville Avenue

With its numerous bars and boutiques, this funky, eclectic Dallas neighborhood is a great free thing to do in Dallas for the afternoon.  Do some window-shopping as you amble along the charming storefronts and mingle with hip, young Dallasites on the crowded sidewalks. There’s a ton of people-watching to do for free, but if you want something in the window, you’ll need to break out your wallet.

Nasher Sculpture Center Nasher Sculpture Center

Opened in 2003, the Dallas Nasher Sculpture Center is one of the few museums in the world exclusively dedicated to modern sculpture. Entrance is free on the first Saturday of every month and children under 12 are free every day, making this one of the best free things to do in Dallas if you come at the right time (or with a child). “Till Midnight at the Nasher" is a monthly event featuring live concerts and outdoor movie screenings. Children under 12 are free.

JFK Memorial

A tour of the sixth floor school book depository costs money, but you can visit the memorial sculpture, walk along the grassy knoll, listen to the conspiracy theorists, and see the spot where the 1963 assassination took place for free in Dallas. This infamous Dallas landmark is a must-do.

Crow Collection

Located in the Dallas Art District, entrance to these galleries dedicated to the arts and cultures of China, India, Southeast Asia, and Japan is free every day. The Crow Collection provides a peaceful respite from the hustle and bustle of downtown Dallas. Be sure to do one of the free tours available twice daily to experience another cultured, free thing to do in Dallas.
